In general, I’m not a big fan of right track/wrong track polling, even though some say that it is very useful in predicting election results, since the party perceived as being in power bears the brunt of the “wrong track” sentiment. If that’s true, this Rasmussen survey is more bad news for the Obama administration and Congressional Democrats:
Just 25% of U.S. voters now say the country is heading in the right direction, the lowest level of voter confidence since early January 2009.
Correspondingly, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 69% believe the nation is heading down the wrong track, the highest level measured in 14 months.
Objectively, conditions aren’t getting worse at the moment. On the contrary, the economy is starting to rebound, as was inevitable. Yet voters’ subjective assessments are a reality of their own. The more Obama talks about government takeover of medicine, the more Americans think the country is on the wrong track. Check out the trend:
If you’re a Democrat, that chart tells a very sad story.
