Good News from the Midwest

Hard on the heels of its new survey showing Republicans with an unprecedented 12-point lead in the generic Congressional ballot, Rasmussen Reports finds Republican Senate candidates Pat Toomey and Rob Portman pulling away in Pennsylvania and Ohio respectively. Toomey now leads Joe Sestak 46-37, while Portman is ahead of Lee Fisher 45-37. All of these results suggest that independents are breaking for Republican candidates, which is consistent with a great deal of data indicating independents’ disaffection from Washington Democrats.
UPDATE: This Gallup poll, showing Republicans with a seven-point lead in the generic poll among registered voters, is more good news along the same lines. Not only is this a registered voter poll, which in any election cycle will tend to favor Democrats, it is especially suspect this year when conservative intensity so much outstrips liberal intensity.
