Why can’t we be more like the French?

There’s an interesting soccer match in Paris tonight. Paris Saint-Gemain (PSG) takes on Macabi Tel-Aviv for a spot in the EUFA Europa League — the second level European club competition. PSG is known for the violent and fascist tendencies of its supporters and there has been trouble before when Israeli teams have visited.
In 2006, PSG fans chased a fan of Hapoel Tel Aviv, shouting anti-semitic slogans. A plainclothes police officer who tried to protect the Hapoel fan was attacked, and in the chaos, one fan was shot dead and another seriously injured.
I’d warn my daughter, who is working in Paris, to stay away from Parc de Princes tonight, were it not for the fact that she is less interested in soccer than anyone I know.
