Remembering Obama’s dirty money

Helene Cooper reports that President used campaign appearances Thursday to decry the private money that has filtered into Republican coffers for the November election campaign, suggesting that some of it came from abroad. He urged the Democratic Party faithful to symbolically drown out the cash with their “millions of voices.” Obama complained that “groups that receive foreign money are spending huge sums to influence American elections, and they won’t tell you where the money for their ads come from.” Obama is deeply concerned about the United States Chamber of Commerce.
Linking to Eric Lichtblau’s New York Times article, Glenn Reynolds comments that Obama’s “foreign money” claims are bogus. He adds: “They’re also pretty rich, considering how his 2008 campaign handled foreign credit cards.”
Glenn revisits the foreign money Obama took in via credit cards with links to contemporaneous news reports. He then observes: “You know, I’d kind of forgotten this scandal until Obama brought this stuff up. It didn’t get much attention then, but it may get more this time around.”
I wrote a New York Post column on the subject, but I had entirely forgotten about it. I stupidly thought at the time it would be dealt with in due course after the election. It hasn’t happened yet and I am quite confident that it is going to remain down the memory hole now but for the obsessive among us.
