Iranium comes to town

When the producers of Iranium booked a screening of the documentary last month at Library and Archives Canada as part of the Free Thinking Film Festival in Ottawa, the Iranian regime went ballistic. It did its best to shut the thing down. In fact, the Iranian regime succeeded in spiking the scheduled January 18 showing of the film.
Then the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper intervened. Heritage Minister James Moore directed Library and Archives Canada to buck up. “This movie will be shown, the agreement will be kept and this movie Iranium will be shown at Library and Archives Canada,” he said. “We will not be moving it to a different facility, we’re not bending to any pressure.”
On Sunday the film debuted in Ottawa before a sold-out house. The National Post has the story. Heritage Minister Moore discusses the screening of Iranium in Ottawa here.
What is it about the film that has the mullahs’ undies in a bunch? The film must be on to something. Today we can see for ourselves: the film has a special one-day premiere across the United States in 14 cities as well as other premiere events, with each premiere showing featuring an in-person expert and discussion of the issues raised by the film.
Iranium explores the ideology of the Iranian regime and the threat posed by the regime to the United States. The 60-minute film uses rarely seen footage of the powers-that-be in Iran and interviews with 25 leading experts on Middle East policy, terrorism and nuclear proliferation including former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton and Iran expert Michael Ledeen. The film, which also features Iranian dissidents, visually demonstrates the hatred and violence exhibited by Iran’s brutal leadership.
In the Twin Cities the film will be shown at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. tonight at the AMC Arbor Lakes theater in Maple Grove. Tonight’s Twin Cities premiere is hosted by our friends at Minnesotans Against Terrorism. Tickets for the Twin Cities premiere are available for purchase here exclusively online and and will NOT be available at the box-office. Nazie Eftekhari, Director of the Iran Democratic Union, will speak at the Twin Cities premiere this evening
The producers of Iranium have also set up a site for the film here. For a limited time the film is available for viewing at the site for free.
