Brian Ward and I recorded Episode 7 of the Hinderaker-Ward Experience last night. The podcast features an interview with Richard Miniter, author of the just-published Mastermind: The Many Faces of the 9/11 Architect, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. It was a terrific interview. We talked about KSM’s background, his time in the United States, his rise in al Qaeda, his relationship with bin Laden, his role in September 11 and other plots, how our intelligence agencies learned of his importance to al Qaeda, his capture–in Pakistan, due to a lucky break–the role his interrogation played in more recent events, including the killing of bin Laden, and KSM’s time at Guantanamo Bay. Miniter is an encyclopedia when it comes to al Qaeda, Mastermind sounds riveting, and the interview couldn’t be more timely.
We finished up with the Loon of the Week and This Week In Gatekeeping, both of which stayed with the bin Laden theme.
