Someone is putting words in Jen Rubin’s mouth

The Washington Post management doesn’t seem to get it. One James Fallows — he who made light of earthquakes in China and never offered a word of apology for his screwy defamation of conservatives in the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords — and a swarm of foul-mouthed and openly anti-Semitic tweeters have raised a ruckus over a Washington Post/Right Turn post in which Jennifer Rubin speculated that there might have been an al Qaeda connection in the Norwegian terrorist attacks.

Michelle Malkin speaks for us in her response to Fallows, which I would condense as “Sod off, James Fallows.” The Post management does nothing to address the slurs. In what must have been a management massaged post, Jennifer instead takes the high ground and essentially offers regrets.

The Jennifer I got to know at the Republican convention in St. Paul in 2008 would never give ground to the howling mob. What I take to be the Post’s approach only encourages the proliferation of even more vile social media effusions and blog posts. The Post in all of this suggests patently hypocritical leftists have a valid point and their own blogger has erred in some fashion. It is the Post that has erred in its telltale failure of nerve.

UPDATE: Glenn Reynolds has collected a must-read set of comments. And, via Memeorandum, Quin Hillyer makes some valuable points in “Fallows’ brain lies fallow.”
