Climategate II

Another batch of emails from the University of East Anglia–the same source as the original Climategate documents–has been leaked by FOIA.org. I haven’t had time to look at them yet, but various others have been sorting through them, and some preliminary findings are posted here, here and elsewhere.

Early returns suggest that these materials may be dynamite. For example:

Thorne:

I also think the science is being manipulated to put a political spin on it which for all our sakes might not be too clever in the long run.

And:

Wigley:

Mike, The Figure you sent is very deceptive […] there have been a number of dishonest presentations of model results by individual authors and by IPCC […]

One more:

Wils:

[2007] What if climate change appears to be just mainly a multidecadal natural fluctuation? They’ll kill us probably […]

Much more to come, stay tuned.

STEVE HAYWARD adds: I have downloaded the file, and will see this afternoon what I can make of it (though I am attending the GOP foreign policy debate tonight).  Drat: there goes my quiet, relaxing Thanksgiving weekend.  It’s deja vu all over again: reading through all the Climategate I emails is how I spent Thanksgiving two years ago.

UPDATE 2: Anthony Watts’s invaluable site WattsUpWithThat has the best headline for this so far: “They’re real and they’re spectacular.”  (With apologies to Seinfeld.)
