North Korea fired its long-awaited rocket today, with embarrassing results: the rocket “disintegrated moments after the launching, and American and Japanese officials said its remnants fell harmlessly into the sea.” It couldn’t happen to a nicer crazed dictator.
Here in the U.S., the Democratic Party experienced a fizzle of similar proportions, when its War on Mothers crashed on takeoff. Democratic operative Hilary Rosen, having been dispatched to lead the anti-Mothers initiative by asserting that Ann Romney has never worked a day in her life, was thrown under the bus when public reaction proved unfavorable. Hilary Rosen? Jay Carney asked. I know three women named Hilary Rosen! Perhaps, but only one of the three has visited the White House 35 times, far more often than the Secretary of Defense.
Tonight, after pretty much everyone else in the Democratic Party had disavowed Rosen’s attack on Ann Romney, President Obama felt obliged to go on record as disagreeing with his own party’s War on Mothers. The whole effort was an epic fail more or less on a par with North Korea’s missile program. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer…well, you can finish the sentence.
