A candidate with no message; a campaign with no slogan

Earlier this week, I noted that President Obama’s claim that the Romney campaign can be reduced to an underlength tweet is rooted in his frustration that he lacks a crisp statement of why he should be re-elected. Howard Dean apparently sees it the same way. Speaking on MSNBC, Dean declared that Obama “needs to condense his economic message to three or four words, and then repeat them every single day between now and the election.”

The problem, of course, is that no brief, plausible economic message is available to Team Obama. The president needed an hour on the subject last night, and still couldn’t get it done.
