Matt Drudge mischievously links to Mark Halperin’s Time post complaining: “Stalking that circus’ center ring is Matt Drudge, whose caustic website continues to help drive the news cycle with an emphasis on negative, mocking items about Obama and Vice President Joe Biden and their wives.” Drudge is on nobody’s team and has a nose for news. Mark Halperin, not so much.
Halperin relates this evidence of Drudge’s power:
The latest sign of Drudge’s potency: Ed Klein, the author of the virulently anti-Obama book The Amateur, was barred from major TV appearances and mostly ignored by the mainstream media, but the book’s prominence on Drudge’s website propelled it to the No. 1 slot on the New York Times nonfiction list.
Hey, I thought it was Episode 26 of The Hinderaker-Ward Experience that propelled Klein’s book to the top of the charts. But here’s a question Halperin fails to explore: who barred Klein from those major TV appearances?
JOHN adds: Here is another nugget from Halperin’s unintentionally revealing post, which immediately precedes the portion that Scott quoted:

Now, some would say that a writer for Time magazine shouldn’t throw stones at “the media freak show.”
Of course, it isn’t only Time. Does Halperin consider Newsweek to be part of “the media freak show?”
If not, why not? Oh, and isn’t Andrew Sullivan writing for Newsweek these days? Are his speculations about Trig Palin part of “the media freak show?” Matt Drudge is a paragon of dignity and restraint compared to Halperin’s own publication and many others in the media formerly known as mainstream.
