A word from Jessica Molaskey

Over the weekend I raved about the weekly radio show that John Pizzarelli does with his wife, Jessica Molaskey. Both Pizzarelli and Molaskey are talented artists in their own right. We saw John Pizzarelli perform a terrific show at the Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant in downtown Minneapolis a few years ago. (We also saw John’s dad, the venerable Bucky Pizzarelli, perform a beautiful one-off show with jazz pianist Benny Green at the Dakota in 2008. Not to get too far off-topic, but you can see a video from the Dakota’s Bucky Pizzarelli-Benny Green show here.)

John and Jessica have made a mark together in New York performing annually at the Cafe Carlyle. New York Times columnist Joe Nocera devoted a column to their annual show. I hear they’re great together.

On their weekly radio show — Radio Deluxe — they play favorite recordings and discuss them appreciatively. Yesterday Jessica commented on my post:

Hey Scott thanks for the kind words about our show…glad you enjoy it…we are on all over the country and in Canada (we listen to [the show] on the website of Jazzfm in Toronto on Sundays 9:30 to 11:30) just haven’t gotten that really big break yet but every little bit helps.

I catch the show when I can on Minneapolis’s Jazz FM 88.5 on Saturday afternoons, which also streams live online. Since I wrote about the “sexy songs” show over the weekend, Radio Deluxe has posted the next week’s “graduation days” show online. You might want to check it out. And thanks to Jessica Molaskey for her note.
