Sore Winners

It’s one thing to be jubilant about winning a tough election, and enjoying the agony of your defeated rivals, but it does seem to me that the triumphant Left are sore winners, displaying a predominant mode of anger rather than celebration and confidence.  One small but telling item was the Twitter reaction among some lefties I follow to The Economist’s cover this week: “Now Hug a Republican.”  The Economist had endorsed Obama for re-election the week before, unlike the crowd of American newspapers that endorsed Romney, but that didn’t stop lefties from heaping calumny on The Economist this week for the heresy of suggesting President Obama deal with the party that still controls one-half of Congress.  “I HATE this magazine” read one tweet I took in.  And as several folks have noticed, Obama’s lefty allies descended on the White House this week demanding that Obama refuse to compromise.  Have fun, Barry!

I’m starting to feel better already.  I think the GOP is actually going to have more room to maneuver than Obama as the fiscal cliff approaches.  If you’d like a preview of how this might go, just have a look at France, where the Left is fracturing badly just months after the triumphant election of the socialist Hollande:

The symbol of the victorious French Socialist Party is the rose, but the bloom is off five months after François Hollande won the presidency, and the petals are blowing around.

Buffeted by a bad economy and rising unemployment, a decent but uninspiring prime minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, has been left by Mr. Hollande to ride the waves as best he can. But bosses are angry, workers are angry and mistakes are mounting, leaving the always disputatious Socialists sniping at their own leaders.

Well, nobody can snipe as well as our Left.  I’m still savoring Cornell West calling Obama “a Rockefeller Republican in blackface” the other day.  What will he say if/when Obama agrees to some social program cuts?

By the way, just an idle observation: our dummies, Akin and Mourdoch, aren’t in Congress, but Nancy Pelosi and Debbie Wasserman Schultz still are.  Who’s the stupid party again?
