A Day In the Life, In Jerusalem

One of the problems that many Israeli Jews deal with on a daily basis is Arab terrorists who throw rocks at their cars, hoping to injure or kill the occupants. That is not unheard of; American liberals have been known to do it, too. For example, during the 2008 Republican convention in St. Paul, liberal protesters dropped cement blocks off highway overpasses onto random cars driving below. But that was a one-time phenomenon, not a persistent effort at mass murder, such as the Arabs have mounted against Israeli Jews. As a result of their coordinated terrorist effort, stories like this are common: “Baby Seriously Injured in Muslim Rock Ambush.”

A two-year-old baby was seriously injured Thursday when Muslim terrorists hurled rocks at the car she was in, at the entrance to the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood in southern Jerusalem. …

Refael Herbst, an MDA paramedic who treated the girl, said: “When we arrived we saw a woman holding a baby aged about 2 years, with a bleeding wound in her head. She was apathetic and in a foggy state of consciousness. We gave her medical treatment on the spot. We were told she had been hit by a large rock as she was traveling in the car with her mother and two brothers, who sat beside her in the car’s back seat.”

This news story is a follow-up on the attack:

Speaking to Channel 2 Friday, her mother said that despite the seriousness of her injuries, little Avigail was making a slow but steady recovery. She and her husband, however were still struggling to come to terms with what had happened.

“Avigail will be OK,” said Shirin Ben-Tzion, “She has fractures to her skull and we now are just waiting.” …

Soon after the attack police arrested 4 Arab suspects aged 15-20 on suspicion of throwing the rocks which injured Avigail. The suspects were brought to court Friday morning to extend their remand.

Referring to her attackers, mother Shirin was scathing:

“I can’t even speak of them as human beings. These are people who consiously chose to harm children – I have nothing to say about them,” she said.

That seems a fair assessment. It is absurd for politicians and commentators to pontificate on events in Israel and “Palestine” without acknowledging the reality with which Israelis live: at any moment, innocent children riding down the street in a car seat may be victims of rock-hurling terrorists, bent on murder.
