Fools and knaves: 60 Minutes edition

Starting with several posts on the Sunday of Susan Rice’s appearance on all the network gabfests (September 16, 2012), I commenced a series under the heading Fools and knaves documenting the administration’s calculated lies covering up the multifarious disgrace of the massacre of our men in Benghazi. Last night 60 Minutes featured Susan Rice in a flattering profile. In the course of the profile she blithely dismissed the lies of Benghazi and her involvement in retailing them as a “false controversy.” Adopting the Hillary Clinton feint, Rice holds herself out as too busy attending to diplomatic security to address the issues (what issues?). What difference at this point does it make?

60 Minutes reporter Lesley Stahl did not take the occasion to pose a single one of the unanswered questions at the heart of the story. She let Rice rattle on. Let it be noted for the record that 60 Minutes has joined the inglorious roster of the knaves and fools populating this series. It earned the right with Steve Kroft’s joint kneepad interview of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton this past January, but I missed the opportunity to induct the 60 Minutes crew at the time. I’m taking the occasion of last night’s segment to catch up.
