You’re probably heard of all the people who die each year in the U.S. on account of that dangerous chemical known as di-hydrogen monoxide. As the official website for di-hydrogen monoxide explains:
Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is a colorless and odorless chemical compound. Its basis is the highly reactive hydroxyl radical, a species shown to mutate DNA, denature proteins, disrupt cell membranes, and chemically alter critical neurotransmitters. The atomic components of DHMO are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol.
Pretty dangerous stuff! We’d better ban or regulate water as soon as possible!
What about this brew of chemicals that millions of our children are exposed to on a regular basis—some times in the schools!:
methylpropan-1 ethanoate; 2-mehtybutyl ethanoate; 2-methyethyl butanoate; oxalic acid; ash; phytosterols; E515; palmitoleic acid; ethyl hexanoate; pentyl acetate; tyrosine; phenylalanine; methionine; and about twenty more.
Sounds really scary. Guess we better ban bananas right away. Yup, the previous list contains the natural ingredients in a banana. Hat tip: James Kennedy. He has cool posters you can download.
And I guess I better get working on the chemical breakdown of Power Line’s Green Weenies.
JOHN adds: Working on lawsuits involving chemicals, I learned that roughly one-half of all substances, whether natural or man-made, are carcinogenic. Human-created compounds are no more likely to be carcinogenic than naturally occurring ones. The main carcinogens in your diet are beer, wine, peanuts and mushrooms. Any additional carcinogenic impact from additives, pesticides, etc. is infinitesimally small. So, hey–if you want to give up peanuts and mushrooms, go right ahead!
