The Udall ukase

Paul’s post on the efforts of Colorado Democratic Senator Mark Udall behind the scenes to rewrite the history of the damage wrought by Obamacare in Colorado deserves further comment. It is a small story of great interest. Let’s pause over it and take another look.

Paul links to Todd Shepherd’s report on Udall’s skullduggery at Complete Colorado (Page Two). The home page of The Complete Colorado — a Drudge lookalike — also warrants a look.

Courtesy of The Complete Colorado, I see that Fox News has picked up the story. Thank you, Fox News. It is a story that deserves additional exposure.

I see also that Megyn Kelly invited (Republican) Colorado Rep. Cory Gardner to discuss the story on her FNC Kelly File show. The video is posted here. As is her wont, Kelly homes in on the heart of the story.

Shepherd’s Complete Colorado story strongly suggests that Udall hit pay dirt with the Denver Post. It appears that Udall found the Post to be more compliant than the folks at the Colorado Division of Insurance. The Post coughed up this story by Michael Booth right on cue, on November 15, putting those troubling cancellation numbers “in context.”

Now comes the Post to the Udall story in “Colorado official felt pressure from Udall office on Obamacare tally.” The story demonstrates Udall’s direct involvement in the skullduggery under the guise of “correcting the record.” Thus we have this:

Udall defended his staff’s actions in an interview with The Denver Post on Thursday. He called it “really important to correct the record” that the 250,000 number wasn’t actually the number of people who outright lost their health insurance. He called the number “only 4 percent of the story.”

“I put my team to work to find out whether those numbers would stand up to scrutiny,” Udall said.

Udall said his focus was on “standing up for Coloradans and their health insurance needs. … I’m going to be there every day ensuring that every Coloradan who wants health insurance gets health insurance.”

Good grief. We may be stupid. Okay, we are stupid, but not quite that stupid. Or so I would like to believe.

One takeaway from this story: incumbent Democratic senators who supplied the sixtieth vote for Obamacare are feeling the heat if they are to face the electorate in November. One more takeaway: these incumbent Democratic senators can count on the support of their hometown newspapers as they feel the heat and face the electorate. See, e.g., the Star Tribune’s “Did Al Franken really cast ‘the 60th vote’ for Obamacare?”
