Harry Reid’s Less-Than-Magnificent Obsession

The Democrats are agitating to raise the minimum wage, unemployment be damned. That was the point of this tweet by Harry Reid, earlier today:

Reid’s tweet is dumb on any number of levels: 1) The economy has been far from uniform over recent decades; it is particularly during the seven years during which Reid has been Majority Leader of the Senate that middle-class Americans have suffered. Reid, of course, takes no responsibility. 2) Incomes haven’t been stagnating because of the Koch brothers, who employ more than 60,000 Americans, overwhelmingly in high-paying jobs. But for them, the problem would be worse. 3) While raising the minimum wage would increase incomes for some who are at the lowest income levels, it will do nothing for the overwhelming majority of “middle-class families.” It would, on the other hand, condemn hundreds of thousands to unemployment–in some cases, a life of unemployment and dependence. 4) Although it sounds unlikely, I sincerely hope it’s true that the Koch brothers made $18 billion last year. But what that has to do with whether the minimum wage is good public policy, God only knows.

Reid is obsessed with Charles and David Koch. This is at least the third time since October that he has attacked them by name. You might infer that Harry Reid hates rich people, but you would be wrong. He didn’t mention it in today’s tweet, but tomorrow, Reid will attend a Democratic Senate fundraiser at the home of billionaire hedge fund manager Tom Steyer, who has pledged $100 million to fan the flames of the global warming fraud:

On Wednesday, Steyer’s home will be the site of a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser, with scheduled attendees including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, one of the Hill’s most outspoken climate advocates.

Steyer’s ambitious $100 million plan would rocket him into the big leagues. As the Times put it, the move would make NextGen “among the largest outside groups in the country, similar in scale to the conservative political network overseen by Charles and David Koch.”

Steyer is a major financier of “green energy,” and has made a fortune from global warming hysteria. But that is fine with Harry Reid, since Steyer’s agenda coincides with his own. It’s really very simple: if you advocate freedom, free enterprise and equal opportunity for all, you are anathema to Reid and people like him. If you stand for cronyism and special privilege, you are a hero. Those are the perverse values of today’s Democratic Party.
