English Premier League All-Stars, 2013-14

The recently completed English Premier League season had plenty of twists and turns. But in the end, the best team (Manchester City) finished first and the fifth best team (Everton) finished fifth.

Arsenal won its first trophy in nine years (the prestigious FA Cup) and continued its run of Champions League qualification with a fourth place finish. Whether this is enough to satisfy Piers Morgan — well, as Gunners midfielder Aaron Ramsey says, “who is he.”

Ramsey, who was called “an utter liability” by the clueless Morgan, makes my 2013-14 all-star team. He’s on the third team but would have been on the first had he not missed so many games due to injury.

Here are my selections:

First Team
Peter Cech — Chelsea
Pablo Zabaleta — Manchester City
Luke Shaw — Southampton
Gary Cahill — Chelsea
Laurent Koscielny — Arsenal
Steven Gerard — Liverpool
Yaya Toure — Manchester City
Eden Hazard — Chelsea
Adam Lallana — Southampton
Wayne Rooney — Manchester United
Luis Suarez — Liverpool

Second Team
David Marshall — Cardiff City
Seamus Coleman — Everton
Leighton Baines — Everton
John Terry — Chelsea
Ashley Williams — Swansea City
Mile Jedinak — Crystal Palace
James McCarthy — Everton
David Silva — Manchester City
Christian Eriksen — Tottenham Hotspur
Sergio Aquero — Manchester City
Daniel Sturridge — Liverpool

Third Team
Asmir Begovic — Stoke City
Branislav Ivanovic — Chelsea
Patrice Evra — Manchester United
Per Mertesacker — Arsenal
Ron Vlaar — Aston Villa
Tom Huddlestone — Hull City
Aaron Ramsey — Arsenal
Jordan Henderson — Liverpool
Rahim Sterling — Liverpool
Olivier Giroud — Arsenal
Rickie Lambert — Southhampton

Player of the year: Suarez
Everton player of the year: Coleman

As always, you should assume that the players you believe were criminally omitted would have made Power Line’s fourth team.
