The Times Does Geography

In the U.K., two of President Obama’s former campaign gurus have lined up on opposite sides. David Axelrod has tried to help right Labour’s sinking ship, while Jim Messina has scandalized American liberals by working as a consultant for David Cameron and the Conservatives. Don’t worry, Messina says: the British Tories are nothing like our nasty Republicans.

The New York Times has the story. Along the way, it provides a little local color from the House of Commons. Only, oops: the paper’s correction tells the story:

Correction: May 27, 2014

An earlier version of this article misspelled the name of the river that is overlooked by the House of Commons Terrace Pavilion, a bar in Parliament. It is the Thames, not the Themes.

One of the themes of our ongoing coverage of Times corrections is that “mainstream” reporters know surprisingly little about such commonplace subjects as arithmetic, science, history, literature and geography. And also, we wonder: do papers like the Times actually employ editors, or are they only a rumor?
