New Jersey’s Insane Gun Laws Destroy Constitutional Rights

On behalf of the NRA, Ginny Simone reports on the outrageous case of Shaneen Allen, a young woman who is a Pennsylvania resident and has a Pennsylvania permit to carry a firearm. She inadvertently strayed into New Jersey, en route to a birthday party for one of her children, with her gun in her purse, and was arrested because she didn’t have a New Jersey carry permit. She is now facing a minimum of three years in state prison. This is a great video, eight minutes long, that exposes not only a grotesque injustice, but a serious threat to Shaneen’s constitutional rights, and yours:

If Chris Christie wants to be taken seriously as a Republican presidential contender, he needs to do something about New Jersey’s out of control persecution of gun owners.

Beyond that, as the video suggests, the optimal solution may be federal. State permit reciprocity could be mandated, or, as I believe Glenn Reynolds has argued, federal law could limit the penalties that any state could impose on lawful gun owners who are permitted in other states. This certainly would be a constitutional exercise of Congress’s power to enforce the Second Amendment. One way or another, freedom-loving Americans can’t allow the sort of persecution that befell Shaneen Allen to continue.
