Dems Say: Let’s Run on Global Warming and Contraception. Voters Say: Huh?

The Democrats’ two big issues this cycle, to the extent they have been willing to talk about issues, are global warming and contraception. Neither of which the federal government has much, if anything, to do with, which may account for the fact that voters just don’t care. This Gallup chart makes the point visually. It graphs the importance of issues to voters against the Republicans’ advantage on those issues. Note the two issues about which voters care the least: global warming and abortion/contraception:

I don’t think Democrats are too dumb to figure out that global warming and contraception are sub-optimal issues; they would much rather be running on jobs, economic growth, and national security. But of course they can’t. They have to talk about global warming because it is part of their crony strategy: slide large amounts of money to union bosses and “green” scammers, and get some it back in campaign contributions. And they talk about contraception because they are having a harder and harder time getting men and married women to vote for them, so they have to mine for votes where they can, by promising freebies to single women. Not a noble strategy, nor, this year, does it look like a winning one.
