Is It Barry, Or Is It Gwyneth?

We wrote here about the Obama fundraiser at Gwyneth Paltrow’s home in Los Angeles, and the guerrilla anti-Obama efforts of two street artists in anticipation of the event.

Since then, you likely have seen news reports of the fundraiser itself. Most notoriously, Paltrow tried to introduce the president to the high rollers present, and, faltering, gushed: “You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly.” Thereby validating the street artists’ characterization of her and her fellow Hollywood lefties.

Less widely reported was this riff by the actress:

Paltrow, who was joined by her children, Apple and Moses, told the crowd: “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass.”

She cited sustainable energy efforts as well as Obama’s push for equal pay, which she called “Very important to me as a working mother.”

Ha Ha Ha! Self-knowledge: to a liberal, it’s like garlic to a vampire.

Really, though, Paltrow and Obama are kindred spirits. Their ideas are almost indistinguishable, a fact that Miss Paltrow would no doubt find flattering. At the Washington Post, Jaime Fuller poses a quiz: Is this from an Obama speech or a GOOP newsletter? It’s sort of like the old “Is it Al Gore or the Unabomber?” quotation game, only more embarrassing. You have to guess whether the quote is from an Obama speech or Gwyneth’s GOOP newsletter.

The amazing thing is that you really can’t tell. I only got two out of eight right. Take the quiz and see whether you can do better; you’d almost have to, with your eyes closed.

Remember the days when people thought Barack Obama was smart? Good times, good times! Poor Miss Paltrow doesn’t seem to have gotten the message. But, when Barry has lost TMZ? Turn out the lights, the party’s over. TMZ headlines: “GWYNETH PALTROW CELEBRITY EVENT SULLIES PRESIDENCY.” I would say that the Obama presidency has been beyond sullying for a while, but still, the notorious gossip site has a point:

The idiocy of Hollywood was in full bloom Thursday night when Gwyneth Paltrow turned an already-embarrassing Hollywood fundraiser into “The Dating Game.”

Paltrow — who hosted the event at her Brentwood home — gushed as she introduced President Obama, “You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly.”

She then showed utter ignorance about, and contempt for, the Constitution and separation of powers — the basic tenets of our government — by saying, “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass.”

It’s the latest example of how demeaning it has become for Presidents to act like circus animals — performing for crowds that will feed them … in this case, feed them with money to line political coffers.

TMZ also has an entertaining video of Obama’s endless motorcade approaching Paltrow’s house while a few demonstrators chant, apparently from a leftist perspective although I couldn’t make out what their point was. (Coincidentally, the imperial President Barry’s 40-car motorcades were a subject of Mark Steyn’s eviscerating humor in Minneapolis last night. You shoulda been there.) I can’t figure out how to steal the video, so you have to go to the link to watch it. Entertainment value aside, the significant point is that TMZ, which caters to low-information people better than almost anyone on the internet, has turned on Obama. Or maybe on Paltrow, if anyone can tell the difference.
