After Charlie Hebdo: Revisiting “The Tyranny of Silence”

Rose Cover copyThis Saturday’s photo roundup will be be the Charlie Hebdo edition, and we’re currently collecting the most offensive Mohammed images for maximum effect.  In the meantime, it is worth taking note of Flemming Rose’s recent book, The Tyranny of Silence.

Rose is the editor of the Danish paper Jyllands-Posten, and he commissioned the series of cartoons about Mohammed in 2005 that ignited a firestorm of controversy, and his book reflects on the cowardice and self-censorship of so many “progressives” in response to the violence and threatened violence from adherents of the so-called “religion of peace.”

Richard Reinsch of the LawLibertySite has a terrific podcast up with Rose that is worth the 50 minutes to hear all the way through. You can stream it or download it here.  Among other notable things, toward the end Reinsch and Rose talk about Bernard Lewis’s observation that Islam is becoming increasingly imperialistic, attempting by violence to enforce Islamic law in non-Islamic nations.  Rose also agrees that “multiculturalism in Europe has failed.”
