Rather symmetrical

Dan Rather is either a little lacking in self-awareness or he wants to pound the final nail into Brian Williams’s coffin. Yesterday Rather spoke up for Brian Williams as Williams seeks to withstand the critique of his Big (Oft-Repeated) Lie. Politico’s Dylan Byers reached out to Rather for comment and obtained this gem:

“I don’t know the particulars about that day in Iraq,” Rather told POLITICO. “I do know Brian. He’s a longtime friend and we have been in a number of war zones and on the same battlefields, competing but together. Brian is an honest, decent man, an excellent reporter and anchor–and a brave one. I can attest that — like his predecessor Tom Brokaw — he is a superb pro, and a gutsy one.”

Thanks, Dan. That means a lot coming from you, and you have given the story “fearful symmetry.” (Tom Brokaw, incidentally, reportedly wants Williams fired.)
