Bill Clinton explains, as only he can

When Sharyl Attkisson was rolling out Stonewalled, Kyle Smith wrote an excellent preview of the book for the New York Post. Yesterday he performed the same service for Peter Schweizer’s Clinton Cash, which is to be published tomorrow. Smith’s New York Post column on Schweizer’s book is “Hill and Bill can’t hide from shady deals exposed in ‘Clinton Cash.'” Quotable quote: “The Clinton Foundation is run about as forthrightly as the KGB.”

Bill Clinton has now spoken up briefly on the subject in response to a few lame questions posed by NBC’s Cynthia McFadden. The NBC segment and related report are posted here. As for those high-priced speeches whose price went up during Madam Hillary’s tenure as Secretary of State, Clinton explains: “I gotta pay our bills. And I also give a lot of it to the foundation every year.” The proposition that “a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do” is the all-purpose Clintonian defense that is easily adapted to changing circumstances.

Quotable quote: “There is no doubt in my mind that we have never done anything knowingly inappropriate in terms of taking money to influence any kind of American government policy. That just hasn’t happened.”

The video excerpt below runs less than 90 seconds. It suggests that even Bill Clinton has a tough way talking himself out of this particular corner.
