Netanyahu on the Lausanne framework, &c.

Prime Minister Netanyahu gave a speech in Israel’s Knesset last week on the seventieth anniversary of VE Day. As is his custom, Netanyahu drew the lesson for today. The Jerusalem Post reported on and quoted from Netanyahu’s speech:

The lesson from World War II is not to back down from an extremist regime whose platform includes genocide and conquering other states, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday, referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The prime minister spoke at a Victory in Europe Day ceremony in the Knesset on Wednesday marking 70 years since the capitulation of the Third Reich.

“Against the enemies of freedom, enlightenment and progress we need to stand firm and in a timely manner, in order to prevent them from using weapons of mass destruction in order to realize their murderous agendas,” the prime minister said.

Netanyahu quoted a senior Iranian official who was cited in Iranian media on Wednesday as saying that Tehran has God’s permission to liquidate Israel.

The “government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has divine permission to destroy Israel,” Mojtaba Zolnour, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s deputy representative to the Revolutionary Guards, said. “The Noble Koran permits the Islamic Republic of Iran to destroy Israel.”

“These statements are being heard by the representatives taking part in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, and the talks continue as normal,” Netanyahu said.

I looked around online unsuccessfully for a video of this speech, but inadvertently found Netanyahu’s Speech at the Fifth Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism last week in Jerusalem. The text of the speech is posted here. The entire speech is interesting. Again, Netanyahu’s remarks on the Islamic Republic of Iran are particularly worthy of note:

The ayatollah regime is conducting as we speak a competition. The competition is an international competition. It parallels our conference, except it’s the very reverse. It’s a competition of Holocaust deniers from around the globe, who can better deny the Holocaust. And while they are denying the Holocaust, they’re planning another genocide against our people.

They openly threaten to annihilate the State of Israel.

Just a few weeks ago, a few days before the Lausanne agreement was signed, an Iranian general said, “The destruction of Israel is non-negotiable.” Openly.

And of course they seek to build nuclear weapons to implement this mad design.

And I have to tell you honestly that the Lausanne framework won’t stop them.

Israel wants to see a peaceful solution, a better deal that will actually block Iran’s path to the bomb.

But I want to be absolutely clear.

The Jewish state will defend itself by itself against any threat.

That’s what we’ve learned from history.

I thought some readers might find the speech of interest (video below).
