Senate Hearing Highlights Problem of Illegal Immigrant Crime

Today the Senate Judiciary Committee conducted a hearing on the Obama administration’s abandonment of the country’s immigration laws. One of the terrible consequences of the administration’s scofflaw policy is that many thousands of illegal aliens with criminal convictions have been released into the population and have gone on to commit more crimes. The Senate committee heard from a series of family members of victims of illegal alien crime:

The Democrats cannot defend their determination to allow violent illegals to run rampant within the United States, and they don’t really try. They just hope the press doesn’t report the story. Today Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Sarah Saldaña testified on behalf of the Obama administration. She was questioned by Senator Ted Cruz, among others:

“Ms. Saldaña, I will note in your opening statement here, you said after listening to the victims’ families you were so sorry for their losses, and yet the Obama Administration keeps doing it. When I asked you how many murderers were released yesterday, you don’t know,” Sen. Cruz asked. “There is a reason the American people are upset. If President Obama had the courage of his convictions, he would come and look in the eyes of these men and women who have lost their sons, their daughters, their mothers, their sisters, their brothers, and the Administration would stop releasing murderers and rapists.”

Sen. Cruz cited the following numbers for the 88,000 total convictions among criminal illegal aliens released into the public in 2013:

* 193 had homicide convictions

* 426 had sexual assault convictions

* More than 16,000 drunk or drugged driving convictions

“If you want to honor Josh [Wilkerson], if you want to honor Kate Steinle, start enforcing the law and stop releasing murderers, and rapists, and drunk drivers. I don’t want to hear from the Obama Administration they’re sorry while they continue to do the exact same thing because what we know – more people will be murdered, more people will be raped, more people will be killed by drunk drivers because this Administration refuses to enforce the law. That is wrong. No man is above the law, and that includes President Obama.” Sen. Cruz said.

The illegal immigrants who murdered the family members of the witnesses who testified today were lawbreakers, but they were enabled by the lawbreaker-in-chief, Barack Obama, and the Democratic Party. The Democrats’ deliberate policy of non-enforcement of the law, intended to force Congress to enact legislation more to the Democrats’ liking than existing laws, has cost untold lives and suffering. This should be one of the top campaign issues in 2016 in every federal election and in state elections where federal law has been unconstitutionally nullified.
