Hillary’s classified emails: 60 and still counting

The Washington Times reports that as of the end of July, the State Department had identified 60 private Hillary Clinton emails that contain classified information. According to the Times, that number is likely to increase as officials wade through a total of 30,000 work-related emails.

The latest batch of Clinton emails with classified material includes one that contains information at the intermediate level of “secret,” according to the Times’ source. This is in addition to the two emails identified earlier in the process that contain “top secret” info.

The Times says that the process of reviewing Clinton’s emails for classified material is likely to continue until until January 2016. That’s around the time she will begin facing voters in the early caucus and primary states.

Earlier this summer, Intelligence Community Inspector General I. Charles McCullough III predicted that Clinton’s personal emails likely contained hundreds of disclosures of classified information. It now looks almost certain that this prediction was correct.

This, then, will be the state of play when the primary season begins in earnest — hundreds of classified emails — belying Hillary’s claim that she never sent or received classified material — and, possibly, additional “secret” and even “top secret” ones.

Accordingly, whether or not the Justice Department takes action against Clinton and/or her associates, this scandal is likely to get worse for Hillary by the time the primary season begins in earnest. Democrats considering entering the presidential race should be mindful now of this reality. By January it will probably be too late for them to capitalize on it.
