Soleimani’s travels

Jennifer Griffin reports that Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani recently visited Moscow to meet with senior Russian leaders, according to two Western intelligence sources, despite a travel ban and U.N. Security Council resolutions barring him from leaving Iran. Griffin notes that Soleimani arrived in Moscow for meetings with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and President Vladimir Putin. “It was not immediately clear what the Iranian leader discussed,” she reports, “but the revelation comes as the United Nations and European Union arms embargo against Iran is slated to be lifted in five years as part of the comprehensive nuclear agreement announced July 14 from Vienna.”

Iran will of course receive a windfall in the approximate amount $150 billion with which it can finance a shopping spree in Moscow. Indeed, Soleimani is himself a named beneficiary of the sanctions relief spelled out in our “detailed arrangement” with Iran. Obama to the contrary notwithstanding, I’m quite sure Soleimani is an Iranian “hardliner” (one with a voluminous American blood on his hands to boot) who is aligned with Obama in support of the deal rather than the Republicans in opposition.
