To Honor Cecil the Lion, a $36,000 Smart Phone

The most overblown news story of modern times shows no sign of going away. If you are still brokenhearted over the cruel fate of Cecil the lion, how can you assuage your pain? With a $36,000 smart phone dedicated to his memory:

The Telegraph reports:

[G]old plating company Goldgenie has provided a unique way of remembering the mighty lion – by committing Cecil’s image to a gold HTC One M9 to raise funds for a charity dedicated to the conservation of animals in Hwange National Park where he lived.

Well, sort of. Actually, ten percent of each sale will go to the charity, which should leave a pretty hefty margin. Here is a closeup of the phone:

Along with the drawing of Cecil, the inscription says: “For Cecil and his kingdom.”

For what it’s worth, over 60% of Zimbabweans live in poverty, and the average gross income is around $3,600. So the price of one Cecil smart phone would support ten average Zimbabwean families for a year.
