Obama and Guns: Then and Now

John has already noted Obama’s demagoguery about guns yesterday, where Obama praised the Australian decision 20 years ago to confiscate certain guns. (Question: how is that the proposal to deport 11 million illegal aliens is said to be impossible, but confiscation of millions of guns isn’t? I’m sure the drug gangs will be the first to comply with such a program.)

Here’s Obama in 2008:

“I just want to be absolutely clear. Alright, So I don’t want any misunderstanding when you all go home and you are talking to your buddies and you say, ah ‘He wants to take your guns away.’ You’ve heard it here, I’m on television so everybody knows it. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.”

Here’s the 29-second video:

As Glenn Reynolds likes to say, all of Obama’s commitments come with an expiration date.
