News out of Paris is that a draft climate agreement has been reached, but I haven’t had a chance to chase down the text yet. I’ll be watching for the fine print about whether the proposed climate aid fund, supposedly $100 billion a year in wealth transfers starting in 2020, actually takes shape in a semi-serious way, and whether an “International Tribunal of Climate Justice” gets traction in some form. The Obama Administration is actually taking a halfway sensible position on the climate aid fund (probably because they know the idea is dead on arrival on Capitol Hill) that any such fund will need to be paid for in part by developing nations themselves. Developing nations may be poor (now) but they’re not stupid. Why would you send your money to the UN for an expensive night on the town in New York before you get it back, minus the discount?
But one fun thing to note is how paranoid the climatistas are. Turns out they have festooned Paris with posters of American “climate criminals” including our pals Marc Morano and Chris Horner. (If you read French, you can get the entire Most Wanted “criminels du climat” list here, though I am sure it sounds better in the original German. Or you can read the New York Times story.) Marc and Chris operate on shoestring budgets compared to the climate-industrial complex, yet still get their mugs up on the streets of Paris. I am very jealous! Marc operates the Drudge-style Climate Depot, and Chris operates out of the Competitive Enterprise Institute. The combined budgets of these two efforts is probably less than the Environmental Defense Fund or the Sierra Club spend on (fair trade, recycled) coffee filters in a month.
