Mook’s miasma

Yesterday Judge Emmet Sullivan held the hearing on the motion by Judicial Watch for discovery into whether the State Department and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton deliberately thwarted the Freedom of Information Act in response to requests for disclosure of Clinton’s email. Judge Sullivan approved limited discovery by Judicial Watch as the lawsuit crawls along at what seems to be a snail’s pace. Paul Mirengoff covers the hearing in a nearby post.

Judge Sullivan was not amused by the arguments advanced on behalf of Clinton and the State Department. His assessment in the form of a rhetorical question deserves to be memorialized and disseminated far and wide: “How on earth can the court conclude there is not at minimum a reasonable suspicion of bad faith?” (Stephen Dinan reports it in his account of the hearing for the Washington Times.)

What does Hillary Clinton have to say about that? We’ll probably never know, but we have now heard from Clinton campaign manager Robbie Mook. He blames a “right-wing” group (i.e., Judicial Watch). It’s all part of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy. That’s what Mook told CNN’s Jake Tapper (video below).

“But Robbie,” Tapper observed, “this judge was appointed by Bill Clinton, I believe.” Not just a Democrat, but Bill Clinton himself.

Ouch, you would think. Indeed, the whole VRCW thing proved to be a laughable bust back in the second term of the first Clinton administration. It’s ancient history already. Yet it’s just about all they’ve got and there is much more to come.
