A face in the crowd: P.J. O’Rourke edition

After posting the video of Our Lady of the Trigger expressing herself at the UMass Amherst event featuring Christina Hoff Sommers, I happened onto P.J. O’Rourke’s introduction to Give War A Chance (1992). P.J.’s apothegm may qualify for inclusion in Steve Hayward’s continuing series of blasts from the past. For my purposes, I think it explicates the video of Our Lady of the Trigger:

The liberal is continually angry, as only a self-important man can be, with his civilization, his culture, his country and his folks back home. His is an infantile world view. At the core of liberalism is the spoiled child-miserable, as all spoiled children are, unsatisfied, demanding, ill-disciplined, despotic and useless. Liberalism is a philosophy of sniveling brats.

This may not do justice to the will to power at the heart of the left, but it serves as an apt commentary on the current campus scene.
