From the Terrell Owens playbook

Readers with a memory longer than mine may recall that the athlete Terrell Owens claimed to have been misquoted in his 2006 autobiography, T.O. That’s the autobiography in which Owens states on page 2, “These are my words, straight from me to you.”

The flap was over a piece in the book that described his comeback in the Super Bowl XXXIX as “heroic.” Owens denied using the word; he attributed it to his coauthor. Owens’s publicist denied that he claimed to have been misquoted. (I vaguely remembered the incident, but not Terrell Owens or even his sport.)

There is no dispute that Hillary Clinton really said “We’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business” in mid-March and then asserted yesterday: “I don’t know how to explain it other than what I said was totally out of context from what I meant.” In so doing, Clinton has contributed a new play to the Terrell Owens playbook. She quoted herself out of context, or something like that.
