Ex-Secret Service agent blows whistle on Hillary

Donald Trump is a nasty piece of work, but is he nastier than Hillary Clinton? I expressed doubt that he is at the end of this post.

In a few weeks, Crisis of Character by former Secret Service agent Gary Byrne, a “tell-all” book about Hillary’s time at the White House, will be released.

“What I saw [at the White House] in the 1990s sickened me,” says Byrne. “I want you to hear my story.”

Amazon provides this description of the book.

While serving as a Secret Service Officer, Gary Byrne protected President Bill Clinton and the First Family in the White House and outside the Oval Office. There, he saw the political and personal machinations of Bill and Hillary Clinton and those who were fiercely loyal to them. In CRISIS OF CHARACTER Byrne provides a firsthand account of the scandals–known and unknown–and daily trials ranging from the minor to national in scale.

Having witnessed the personal and political dysfunction of the Clinton White House–so consumed by scandal and destroying their enemies, real and imagined–Byrne came to understand that, to the Clintons, governing was an afterthought. He now tells this story–before voters go to the polls–in the hopes that Clinton supporters will understand the real Hillary Clinton.

How does “the real Hillary Clinton behave? Says Byrne:

I witnessed her obscenity-laced tirades, her shifting of blame, how she berated Vince Foster until he could stand no more, how minor incidents involving blue gloves and botched invitations sent her into a tizzy. It was like watching Humphrey Bogart in The Caine Mutiny obsessing about a quart of missing strawberries–and losing sight of the world war raging about him.

I saw Hillary scheming with Dick Morris to undermine White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta. FBI agents confided in me about her emerging Filegate scandal; they were just as frustrated with Hillary’s methods as we were.

In Byrne’s view, Hillary Clinton “simply lacks the integrity and temperament to serve in the office. From the bottom of my soul I know this to be true.”

Will Byrne’s book have a major impact on the campaign? I doubt it. The prevailing view will be that the 1990s “have been litigated,” to use one of Barack Obama’s nauseating pet phrase.

But that “litigation,” along with more recent “causes of action” including Benghazi and the email server, provides a partial answer to the argument that Donald Trump lacks the integrity and temperament to serve as president. That partial answer is: so does his opponent.
