Trump takes a victory lap

Donald Trump is giving an utterly bizarre if perectly characteristic statement. He is free associating as he highlights great moments from the primary season. He is trashing Ted Cruz. He is revisiting the source of the personal offense Cruz has taken. He disclaims a desire for Cruz’s endorsement. He vouches again for the National Enquirer.

He proclaims the ease with which he dispatched his GOP rivals. He reviews his rise in the polls. He disparages journalists who did not believe in him the way he believes in himself.

Because that’s what he finds it fit to do on the day after he has secured the Republican presidential nomination and undertaken a general election campaign. He’s just that kind of guy.

What is going on here? The Republican Party has hitched its caboose to an utterly bizarre character. I would prefer not to see a President Hillary but I can’t celebrate Trump or pretend everything is copacetic. It’s not even within the realm of normality.
