A liberal endorses Judge Gorsuch [UPDATED]

The nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court has been very well received by conservatives and those on the center right. But he also has an endorsement that should carry weight with Democrats (though it probably won’t).

Neal Katyal served as Solicitor General of the United States under President Obama. Now in private practice, he is also Paul and Patricia Saunders Professor of National Security Law at Georgetown University Law Center. Katyal is a Democrat and a liberal.

Here is what Katyal says about Judge Gorsuch:

Judge Gorsuch is one of the most thoughtful and brilliant judges to have served our nation over the last century. As a judge, he has always put aside his personal views to serve the rule of law. To boot, as those of us who have worked with him can attest, he is a wonderfully decent and humane person. I strongly support his nomination to the Supreme Court.

Very nice, as president Trump likes to say.

UPDATE: Katyal explains his endorsement in a New York Times op-ed. The title is “Why Liberals Should Back Neil Gorsuch.”
