California Democrats Advocate Criminal Resistance to Trump

The New York Times reports on bold talk among California Democrats about resisting the Trump administration, via criminal activity if necessary:

The state lieutenant governor, Gavin Newsom, who is running for governor, said California could use its stringent environmental protection law to block Mr. Trump from building a wall along the Mexican border.

Apparently the Lieutenant Governor is unfamiliar with the Supremacy Clause.

In Sacramento, Gov. Jerry Brown and lawmakers are pressing bills to expand environmental protections, provide legal assistance for immigrants facing deportation and raise gasoline taxes to pay for highway construction.

These efforts may be hampered, as the Times notes, by California’s fiscal crisis:

Mr. Brown, in a budget he presented last week, projected a $1.6 billion shortfall by next summer, which means it will be difficult for California to promote the kind of spending program lawmakers want to make up for cuts in Washington, particularly on health care.

But this is the worst:

[I]n Los Angeles, Sheila Kuehl, a member of the powerful county board of supervisors, has started what she has called “Operation Monkey Wrench,” urging people, including state and federal government workers, to systematically disrupt Trump policies that run counter to California laws and policies.

“I am encouraging people to engage in any way they can to slow down anything that might come from the federal departments and Congress,” she said. “You can’t just be dormant when fascism is growing.”

Idiot.

“The impact of anything coming out of Washington is going to be so difficult for California that we are almost thrown into survival mode,” said Ms. Kuehl, who has been in public office since 1994. She said she had urged people — “everyone: local and state governments, staff of federal agencies, nonprofits, neighborhood groups” — to aggressively try to impede any policies pushed by Mr. Trump that undercut California laws or policies.

“I said ‘If you have to lie, cheat and steal, do it,’” Ms. Kuehl said. “Take federal money and just tell them you are going to do whatever they want.”

Lying, cheating and stealing for the Democratic Party? Yawn. What else is new?

But a reader reacts more strongly:

Can you imagine if we did this? On, say, gun control, abortion, affirmative action? Compare and contrast this with their bloodthirsty hysteria over the Bundy land dispute.

Good to know that the left now openly supports sedition and resistance to federal law by elected officials…and unionized government workers who themselves constitute a special interest, constantly seeking their own aggrandizement.

It’s straight out of the Orval Faubus playbook. So: What Would Ike Do?

Bring. It. On.

The Toddler Party is stamping its feet, but we will see how long hysteria reigns once Trump actually takes office.
