Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi seem to me to challenge the idea that successful politicians generally have to have a modicum of likability. Each has gone a long way displaying personal qualities that repel citizens of average American sensibilities. Adapting the modernist concept of expressive form, their motto might be Make America Grate Again!
They have another variation of the Trump motto in mind. They resist the repeal of Obamacare with the slogan: Make America Sick Again (photo below). I’m quite sure they haven’t test marketed this one. It sounds like they have a serious case of projection.
Incidentally, wasn’t Alice Cooper there first with the slogan? And didn’t he put it to better use?
Dilbert creator Scott Adams is not impressed. He finds the slogan lacking. He asks whether the Onion is advising Democrats now.
I think of the mocking question that Dan Hicks borrowed for one his his twisted songs with the Hot Licks: How can I miss you when you won’t go away? I wonder: How can we get sick again when you never stopped making us ill?
Clarice Feldman is also reaching for the motion sickness bag. Schumer and Pelosi have inspired her weekly American Thinker column with the thought “Making (me and) America sick again.”
