A Preview of Past Attractions, or, How to Drive Liberals Mad

As many of you know (because I saw some of you), I spent last week as an inmate at the annual Conference on World Affairs at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The CWA is a big thing there every year, and it features roughly 100 speakers from all around the world and a big audience. Being Boulder, it is an overwhelmingly liberal affair. I counted exactly seven (7) conservatives out of the entire speaker roster. Which meant we had them outnumbered. I offered the opening night to accept their surrender right then, saving them the trouble of getting beaten about for a whole week.

Two of the many panels I was on were livestream and captured, and here’s a short six-minute highlight reel. The first set comes from a panel about “Ripped from the Headlines,” which was a placeholder to allow for comment on what is happening right now that the CWA couldn’t anticipate when they put together the panel topics months ago. No matter what the stated topic of the panels at CWA, virtually all of them were about Trump, and I manage to get off a few modest defenses of him here.

The last clip is me contesting with Lizz Winstead, the former head writer of The Daily Show, on a panel ostensibly about the topic of “Alternative Facts,” whatever that was supposed to mean. The  sound failed on the first few minutes of the complete video, so it failed to capture my opening provocation, which was: “Gee—judging from the hysterical reaction of the left to Kelly Ann Conway’s remark about ‘alternative facts,’ you’d have thought she said ‘If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor.'” Anyway, I figured I could contest the Daily Show lady about satire and the superficiality of the news media without her catching the subtle implication that the critique includes especially The Daily Show.
