Prayers for Scalise and Mika

Early reports following the attempted massacre of congressional Republicans on the baseball field in Arlington yesterday sounded an optimistic note on the condition of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise. At last word, however, he remained in critical condition. Last night the MedStar Washington Hospital Center released a statement that Scalise’s office tweeted out:

After visiting Scalise in the hospital last night President Trump turned to his favorite medium to let us know that Scalise needs our prayers.

Politico reports that former congressional staffer Matt Mika also remains in critical condition following multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Mika is a former college ballplayer. He participated in practices to lend a hand for love of the game in general and the Congressional Baseball Game in particular. It sounds like he too is in tough shape. Mika’s parents traveled from their home in Michigan to be with him at the hospital, where friends and colleagues were keeping vigil.

Capitol Police officers David Bailey and Crystal Griner are credited with running to fire and averting a massacre yesterday. Although injured by Hodgkinson, they are reportedly in good condition. The same applies to staffer Zach Barth, also wounded by Hodgkinson. Scalise and Mika, however, appear to be in need our prayers as they fight for their lives and return to health.
