More Terror Attacks In Europe

It is getting to the point where they are barely newsworthy. In Brussels, a man armed with a knife yelled “Allahu Akbar” as he attacked two policemen.

A fresh terror attack hit Brussels tonight as a knife maniac yelling “Allahu Akbar” attacked two soldiers with a “machete” before being shot dead.

The Belgian capital was placed in lockdown with a massive police response following the horror, which came an hour before an almost identical attack on two police officers outside Buckingham Palace.

The soldiers – who suffered injuries to their face and hand – opened fire on the attacker as the 30-year-old man, believed to be from Somalia, charged at them with a large bladed weapon.

Officials said the man had no known extremist links – but the prosecutor’s office said: “We believe it is a terrorist attack”.

A spokeswoman for federal prosecutors said the man had shouted “Allahu Akbar” (Arabic for “God is Great”) twice during the attack.

It isn’t entirely clear that the Buckingham Palace attack was Islamic terrorism, as the perpetrator has not yet been identified. But what else accounts for the epidemic of vehicle and knife attacks? The Telegraph reports:

Buckingham Palace was in lockdown on Friday night after a man armed with a knife injured two police officers.

It was too early to state whether the incident was terrorism related, the Metropolitan Police said.

Witnesses said the man was removed from a car, having apparently driven his vehicle towards them.

“We turned up and there was one police van and one car, there was also a civilian’s car that had veered towards the police car,” said Kiana Williamson.

“They were trying to get the man out of the car, shouting, more police were arriving on to the scene and the man was fighting back.

The area was surrounded immediately by armed police and other security services and tourists were ushered away from the area.

There were unconfirmed reports on social media that the man was carrying a sword or machete.

Various dictionaries name a “word of the year” annually. This year’s winner may have to be “lockdown.”
