“This is like mad libs”

Mike Mullen is the news editor of Twin Cities alternative weekly CityPages. Last week Mullen took after Mitchell Gunter’s Campus Reform report on a University of Minnesota student group called Tongues Untied. Tongues Untied describes itself as “a space by and for People of Color who identify as LGBTQIA and/or Same-Gender-Loving.”

Mullen mocked Gunter’s criticism of the group’s exclusivity. When it comes to argument, Mullen is a practitioner of the form known as ad hominem. Mullen disparaged Gunter as “a notably white man who lives in South Carolina” and as one who speaks for “aggrieved alt-right white youth,” whatever that means.

Sitting in for Tucker Carlson on Fox News last night, Mark Steyn invited Mullen to discuss the subject and expand on his thoughts, such as they are. Accustomed to writing for an audience of like minded readers in the Twin Cities, Mullen failed to understand that he might not be up to Steyn’s challenge. In the event he served as raw material for Steyn’s satire (video below). Mullen himself is “notably white,” as Mark points out, but not notably bright.
