Democrat Senators Won’t Meet With Kavanaugh

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders conducted a briefing yesterday. It featured the usual anti-Trump hysteria by members of the White House press corps, but I thought the most interesting point to emerge was the one that Sanders began with:

In the two weeks since President Trump nominated Judge Kavanaugh, he has met with 23 senators. Unfortunately, all of them are Republicans. That’s because Senator Schumer is encouraging his members to not even meet with the Judge.

For members of the opposing party to demand answers to questions and yet refuse to even meet with a qualified Supreme Court nominee is unprecedented. Senator Schumer should stop these political games and meet with Judge Kavanaugh.

We welcome Senate Democrats who take their constitutional duty of advise and consent seriously. Judge Kavanaugh stands ready to meet with members of both parties.

Maybe this has been widely reported. If so, I’ve missed it. Of all the potential Supreme Court nominees on President Trump’s list, Kavanaugh was probably the most obviously well-qualified and had the most liberal support. Yet, apparently not a single Senate Democrat will even talk to him.

The Democratic Party has gone so far around the bend that it is hard to see how it will find its way back to normalcy.
