Sarah Jeong equated Trump and Hitler “before it was cool”

Sarah Jeong, the New York Times’ latest addition to its editorial board, is a thought leader. She says so herself.

In December 2017, Jeong boasted “I was equating Trump to Hitler before it was cool.” A month earlier, this rising journalism star had tweeted “how f**king prescient was I on Trump = Hitler.”

It may be cool to equate Trump and Hitler, but it is also extraordinarily stupid. Hitler hated large groups of people based on their race and ethnicity, and he tried to exterminate members of these groups.

Trump doesn’t hate members of any particular group, nor has he tried to exterminate anyone. Trump does
have it in for illegal immigrants, but not because of their race or ethnicity.

Some accuse Trump of hating African-Americans, but there’s no basis for this claim. In fact, Trump has the approval of significantly more African-Americans than other center-right presidents and presidential candidates have enjoyed. This would not be the case if Trump hated African-Americans.

Jeong hates large groups of people because of their race (white) and gender (male). She has fantasized about “kill[ing] all the men,” but hasn’t killed any and says she doesn’t expect to. Thus, she can’t be equated to Hitler, either.

No serious person equates Trump and Hitler. No serious newspaper hires someone who does for its editorial board.
