War Drums Sounding?

It is hard to conclude from media accounts exactly what is up between Israel and Iran right now, because for all of the leaked and disclosed information, there is always more going on behind the scenes that we never find out about for a long time. But this news item just breaking a couple hours ago seems possibly significant:

Biden Rushes Back to White House as Iran Weighs Attack on Israel

President Biden was set to rush back to the White House on Saturday to consult with his national-security team as many world leaders remained on edge over Iran’s pledge to respond to a deadly attack by Israel.

The White House said Biden was cutting short a weekend trip to Rehoboth Beach, Del., and would meet with his national-security team in Washington “about events in the Middle East.”

It’s got to be fairly important for Biden to cut short his weekend naptime and vitamin infusions to return to the White House, but it is possible that his Delaware beach house isn’t sufficiently equipped for secure communications with foreign officials, and/or Biden’s team as well as our allies need actual decisions from Biden on our military disposition.

Other news from Axios:

  • Israel Defense Forces’ home front command announced a state of alert starting 4pm ET Saturday and added that all schools and education institutions will be closed Sunday — another sign of an imminent attack.
  • The Israeli security cabinet was called for a meeting on Saturday night local time to discuss the preparation for an Iranian attack, Israeli officials say.
  • Jordan announced it is closing its air space for commercial flights ahead of possible escalation.
