Shameless

Time magazine, which evidently is still being published, has reached a new pinnacle of hagiography with its cover story on Kamala Harris:

Her moment, indeed! The New York Post is skeptical:

The Time cover story depicted Harris with her supporters in the background on the cover with the phrase, “Her Moment.” Inside, author Charlotte Alter wrote that Harris “pulled off the swiftest vibe shift in modern political history.”

Reportedly, the Democrats are trying to turn this into a “vibe” election. As opposed to a referendum on the failures of the Biden/Harris administration. It makes sense, since the Democrats control all the cultural elements that create “vibes.” Whether the voters will see it that way is another matter.

The piece began with a description of the vibes of Harris’ debut with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz: “The soundtrack suggested a Beyoncé concert. The light-up bracelets evoked the Eras Tour. And the exuberant crowd — more than 14,000 strong, lining up in the rain — resembled the early days of Barack Obama. Inside a Philadelphia arena on Aug. 6, Vice President Kamala Harris was greeted with a kind of reception a Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t gotten in years.”

That is how glad the Democrats are to be rid of Joe Biden. Whether Harris can actually leave behind her record over the last four years of misery, and her far-left record before that in the Senate, remains to be seen. But Time and almost every other legacy media outlet will try to help her do exactly that.

What is funny about the Time story, in particular, is that Harris refused to be interviewed for it. Back in the day when there were journalists in the land, they would have been offended by such arrogance. They certainly would not have published a puff piece on behalf of a politician who wouldn’t answer questions–especially from them.

But those days are long gone. The Time reporters and editors likely were relieved that Harris turned them down. If they had gotten an interview, Harris probably would have said some dumb things that they would have to work around. This way, it is a blank canvas. Nothing but “vibe.” How convenient for all concerned.

Some gnash their teeth and tell “journalists” like those at Time (and the New York Times, Washington Post, Associated Press, and pretty much every other legacy outlet) to “do your job!” I think that reaction is misconceived. “Journalists” at outlets like Time, et al., are doing their jobs. Their job is to help elect Democrats. Period. That is what they are paid for, and they do it with heartfelt enthusiasm.

So complaints from those who want them to be different fall on deaf ears.
