This morning, liberals are celebrating Donald Trump’s poor performance last night. The New York Times and the Washington Post are giddy. And Trump’s troubles got deeper when, just a few minutes after the debate concluded, Taylor Swift–likely emboldened by how well the debate went for Kamala Harris–publicly endorsed her.
Endorsements don’t generally mean much. Dick Cheney’s endorsement of Harris will have zero impact, for example. But Swift’s is probably the most valuable support that Harris could have gotten. It brings a veneer of plausibility to the most unlikely national ticket in American history. This is admittedly pure speculation, but I think Swift’s endorsement will help Harris more than Robert Kennedy’s has helped Trump.
Time remaining until the election is dwindling down. Voting is already beginning in some areas. Trump needs some dramatic development, perhaps in foreign affairs, to change the narrative and to stall the momentum that is running in the Democrats’ favor.
